Jesus Freak

I love this song. What will people think when they hear that I’m a Jesus Freak. What will people do when they find out its true? In fact, I’m listening to it now. Sigh. I miss DC Talk.

Anyways, I remember when this song first came out kids in my youth group made T-shirts with the name the next day.

Over the years, I’ve heard many interpretations and condemnations over this song.

Sigh.

I mean seriously? How about we just enjoy a song? I’m getting off point.

Its a great song…

Separated, I cut myself clean
From a past that comes back in my darkest of dreams
Been apprehended by a spiritual force
And a grace that replaced all the me I’ve divorced
Obviously theres more – but lets think about this for a second. Separating yourself. How does that help spread the love of God? How does that help?
Well, we are called to be separated. How? Well, I am no one to tell you how to live your life but think of it this way: Would you watch that/listen to that/talk that way around Jesus? Every time I’ve heard that its convinced me.
But? I still do what I want.
I want to be a Jesus Freak. I want to be always conscience of what I’m doing in relation to the Lord. If you think of it, thats part of the message of the song. Yes, we should be separated, but in reality we won’t a lot of the time. Why? Because my friend – we are human. Shocking. I know.
But seriously, we won’t and thats okay – as long as you strive for that. Strive to be like Christ. But don’t knock yourself over if you don’t – thats what the enemy wants you to do.
God wants you to remember:
Every day I wrestle with the voices That keep telling me I’m not right But that’s alright
‘Cause I hear a voice and He calls me redeemed When others say I’ll never be enough
And greater is the One living inside of me Than he who is living in the world

So Jesus Freak. Unattainable? No. But in order to be a true Jesus Freak, ya gotta try to attain it.
